I. What is a Covenant?
II. Identifying the New Covenant in Hebrews.Hebrews 8:6-13; 9:11-22
A. The New replaces the Old. (8:7, 13)
B. The New Covenant became forceful when Jesus died. (9:15)
C. The New provides forgiveness of sins. (9:11-15, 22)
D. God writes the New Covenant on the hearts of men. (8:10)
E. The New Covenant causes people to become dependent upon God. (8:10-11)
III. Identifying the Old Covenant in Hebrews. Hebrews 8:6-13; 9:11-22
A. The Old began when God let Israel out of Egypt. (8:9)
B. The Old Covenant required obedience to the Old Covenant of the law. (9:1)
C. The Old was dedicated when Moses sprinkled the people with blood. (9:18-22; Exodus 24:3-8)
D. The Old caused the people to say "We will obey". (Exodus 24:3, 7)
Conclusion -
The New Covenant is established by Christ's death and the sprinkling of His blood upon us set us apart for obedience to Him. (1st Peter 1:2)
