Introduction
If we had to define Christianity in a sentence what would we say?
In the closing sentences of this letter Peter reminds his readers about the essentials of the Christian faith. What are 3 things that Christians must possess?
I. Christians must be submissive. See 5:5.
A. What does the Bible mean by “submit?”
The NT defines “submission” as “putting in order under; stationing under; or arranging under.”
B. How important is submission in the Christian life?
Peter addresses it 6 times!! And it’s a command all 6 times. It’s mentioned over 30 other times in the NT.
Many of God’s commands are 2-sided – they flow 2 ways.
II. Christians must be humble. See 5:5-6.
A. What is Biblical humility?
Lowliness; meekness; being of poor spirit; having an unassuming nature; not thinking too highly of one’s self.
Biblical humility involves viewing our-selves realistically – God deserves credit for all that we are and have.
B. Biblical humility involves viewing our-selves realistically – God deserves credit for all that we are and have.
See also James 4:6-10.
C. A beautiful promise.
God gives grace to the humble!
III. Christians must be trusting. See 5:7
A. “Casting” means to “throw upon.”
B. Why can we trust God?
