I want to call this week’s Back Page “Reminder Week.” And the first reminder is: our annual business meeting is coming up on April 27th. If you are not a member of our church, I want you to know that our business meetings are open – if you would like to attend please feel free to do so. In fact, we’re having a fellowship meal so plan on bringing some food, sharing it with others, and enjoying some fellowship! And, if you are a member, please be praying about any men you would like to nominate to serve as a deacon. Use the back of a prayer card and write the names of any men you believe are Biblically qualified to serve our church in this important ministry. Then, put it in the offering plate.
A second reminder is for our men: please mark your calendars for May 3rd at 7:30am. We’re planning a men’s fellowship breakfast which means a time for us to share, do some praying together, and get a short challenge from the Word of God. It would be great to have all the men in our church there! It will not be a workday.
Reminder #3 – if you haven’t been baptized, please contact me as soon as possible. We will be having a baptismal service in the next few weeks!!
Reminder #4 – Psalm 119:18 says: “Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in Your law.” The Scriptures teach that our faith employs all of our God-given senses. Sight – “Look unto me, and be saved, all the ends of the earth” (Isaiah 45:22); Hearing – “Hear, and your soul shall live” (Isaiah 55:3); Smell – “Thy name is like ointment poured forth” (Song of Solomon 1:3); Touch – “If I may but touch His garment, I shall be well” (Matthew 9:21); and Taste – “O taste and see that the Lord is good” (Psalm 34:8). Have you ever thought about how important it is to have our entire being alive and alert to God’s every prompting? In general, most Christians do not deliberately and dramatically disobey God. Instead we simply do not heed Him by being sensitive to His leading in the small details of our lives. When we think about the importance of our senses in this light, we are reminded of how important it is that we should have seeing eyes, hearing ears, verbal communication of the Truth, and a loving heart for receiving and sharing God’s love. An excellent prayer that flows right out of Psalm 119:18 would go something like this: “Lord…I ask you to activate my senses for receiving Your Truth; to make me more sensitive to the needs of those who need to hear the Truth; and to experience Your love.”
Have a blessed week!
